Founded in 1793 by Captain John Drinkwater, historian of the Great Siege, the Gibraltar Garrison Library was completed in 1804 under the Duke of Kent. Designed by Captain Fyers of the Royal Engineers, it became a hub for Garrison officers — a place for learning, discussion, and recreation.

Now under the Government of Gibraltar, the library continues to thrive as a cultural landmark and is home to the Gibraltar International Literary Festival, welcoming world-class writers and speakers each year.
